Five years into the regeneration programme and residents remain keen to have their say, stay involved and make a difference; 29.5% of the community voted in the 2006 elections, higher than the average for all of the NDCs (24%), electing three more residents to a Board made up of a majority of community representatives.
Residents have also taken the opportunity to vote through articles in the monthly newsletter and flyers delivered to every home in the NDC area e.g. naming of the Eric John`s Stand at Brickfields and whether or not to hold a Summer Parade. Now there will be the opportunity to vote online through this website`s forum
The individual Themes have held quarterly update events to advise, involve and provide the opportunity to ask questions about what`s happening in particular areas of the programme. These events have included surgeries` with Bobbies on the Beat, job recruitment days, the highly successful annual DRC Partnership Job Fair attended by over 1000 people, and even massage and aromatherapy `tasters`.
In addition the DRC Partnership shop at 38 - 40 Marlborough Street remains open five days a week for residents to call in for information from the Jobcentre Plus team, the MoneyWise debt advisor, Citizens Advice Bureau, specialist advice for those with health issues returning to work, monthly employer recruitment days and the DRC Partnership staff team.
