Tackling crime requires both short and long term solutions. In the short term DRC Partnership has worked on addressing both actual crimes as well as the fear of crime.
The Community Safety Theme has concentrated on putting in place measures that represent a new direction in crime reduction - measures that require a co-ordinated approach working together with the community and a range of agencies and organisations in the public, business, community and voluntary sectors. This approach attempts to tackle some of the underlying causes of crime and anti-social behaviour rather than just deal with their immediate reasons.
DRC Partnership is working to improve visible signs of crime prevention by supporting additional police officers on the beat, the extended use of CCTV and better security measures. Crimes related to drugs, domestic violence, criminal damage, theft, racial harassment and intimidation have been targeted with offence rates reducing.
