You Decide for School
You have £20,000 to share with other primary school children
- What would you spend it on?
- What would improve your learning?
School Councils from four local Devonport Primary Schools are working together to think up ideas on how to spend £20,000 Participatory Budgeting funding.
This is the fourth pilot funded by DRC Partnership as part of the You Decide programme. The scheme has already asked the Over 50`s, local residents and young people to vote how to spend a total of £225,000.
Each member of the Council is working with pupils and teachers on ideas to benefit curriculums, environments, after-school clubs or holiday activities.
Ideas must benefit pupils at all four schools - St Joseph`s, Marlborough, Mount Wise and Morice Town.
At the beginning of term 4, every pupil will have the chance to vote in a polling booth to decide the winning idea(s)
Participatory Budgeting helps primary school pupils understand citzenship, how taxes are raised and spent within democratic societies, and propose better ways to spend that money.
The young people are very excited about taking part and choosing how to spend the money.
