The Pembroke Street Estate is situated in the inner city area of Mount Wise in Devonport. In the 1980s local people got together and formed a residents association to try and halt the spiral of decline. It was here in Pembroke Street, that Devonports regeneration programme eventually began in the early 1990s. Through this initiative the residents went on to change the management arrangements, which led into forming an Estate Management Board (EMB).
Since 1994, PEMB has achieved excellent practical results and national acclaim as a place to learn about community led regeneration. We have a strong track record in engaging people through delivery of integrated, responsive and locally accountable services in the fields of housing management, children and young people, repair and maintenance and support for the elderly and other vulnerable people.
Running throughout our service provision is a commitment to inclusion and empowering local people to become trained and employed in the delivery of these services. We are also committed to working in partnerships and sharing our experiences of community regeneration and local service delivery with others across Devonport, the city and the country as a whole.
