Programme Aims

What about the future?

In the next three years of the NDC programme, a wealth of additional benefits will be delivered to the community of Devonport across all five Theme areas. The DRC Partnership team works to a delivery plan, determined by the Board and then assessed by central government before funding is allocated each year.

Planned expenditure for 2008/2009 is £9,049,000 and key projects include:
  • Completion of the Dental Training School.
  • Planning for a comprehensive refurbishment of the Cumberland Centre and the development of first class local health facilities.
  • Work to start on the refurbishment of the Devonport Guildhall.
  • Work to start on turning St Aubyn's Church into a modern community library.
  • Installation of new low energy street lighting throughout Devonport, with particular emphasis on areas currently poorly lit.
  • Completion of the first phase of environmental improvements at Granby Green.
  • Developing with the providers a supported exit strategy from NDC funding of local youth services.
  • Work with the Community Land Trust and Community Leisure Trust to expand the asset base owned directly by the community.
  • Development of a package of locally delivered adult training schemes, to support more local people into employment.

In addition to this the NDC Partnership programme has succeeded in attracting additional (non NDC) funding from private and public investment, likely to exceed £260 million by the end of the programme in housing, health, leisure, community safety, employment, education and Devonport's infrastructure.
